In the modern world, we share data between different staff, devices, apps and external parties on a daily basis. So how can you identify and secure your data when it’s being sent and stored outside your own network or document management system?

Azure Information Protection allows business documents (such as Word or Excel) to be classified and protected according to your data security policies. This classification of documents can be automated or applied manually by staff when composing the document.

For example, one classification may be ‘Internal’ with corresponding security policies that prevent that document from being shared externally, or opened by anyone other than your employees. You could also take this a step further by assigning only certain staff or departments access to the document.

Another classification may be ‘Confidential’ which could additionally prevent the document from being printed or the contents copied to another document or application.

Recommendations for classification can also be presented to staff while composing documents, such as when Credit Card numbers are found.

The functionality of Azure Information Protection can also be extended to documents sent to clients or partners by ensuring files are encrypted, and accessible only by the intended recipients. These classifications and corresponding restrictions can be tailored to your unique business needs.

At Worktopia, we feel security features like those available with Microsoft Azure Information Protection should be the norm for any security conscious business. In this spirit, Azure Information Protection is available to Worktopia clients as an inclusion within our Managed IT services.
